ho hum runs

Two mornings in a row. Two very slow runs. Like the slowest ever for their respective distances and routes. I'm not exactly sure why this happened. I felt relatively good through each of them. And they were not slogs. Just slow. I didn't bonk or even have significant stride breakdown. Yesterday was a short run. Today was a long run. It's even been remarkably cool for August. Today, after my long run, I feel fine. I'm not really even tired like I sometimes am after a long run. I guess because I just wasn't trying/pushing very hard. That may be all it is: I just didn't want to run today or yesterday. Or, my body didn't want to run. Can the body get bored? That's what it felt like. I could tell I was going slow right from the start but thought I'd allow myself to warm up a bit before speeding up. And I did try to speed up a few times but it didn't last. I would soon just loose the oomph. In a way it was kind of nice. It was just a stroll through the Arroyo with no place else to be. Totally unhurried. Maybe I am finally turning into a mindful mule...

Thanks, Justin. I think you might be right. Way of the future...

We are all aging out of our need for speed.

Yes, thanks, Midnight.

Embrace the experience, not the clock.

Speed is just another number.

However, I was rather excited this morning to see my fastest short run time in over four years... That totally came out of nowhere! If I were a guru, I'd have a line that goes something like, "One must run slow before one can run fast!"

Just a question
Do you think any relation to nutrition?
In Retrospect, Sometimes I feel that way when my protein intake (mostly vegetarian) has been less...not to mentions and who knows about the micronutrient level.. Or maybe too much caffeine occupying the adenosine receptor that is trying to replace our ATP. I
Mostly though I just wait until the good days come so then I get excited again

Thanks for dropping by the blog, Julia! And, yes, it could easily have been a temporary nutrition issue. I've been pretty relaxed about my diet lately. But sleep is likely a major factor as well. Or, lack of sleep, I should say, thanks to the one-year-old-daughter... Another possibility is that maybe our bodies create their own rhythms or waves through our training programs and when we never really take a rest they force us to at least slow down. So, I guess it's complicated. But I've also recovered since then so, out of sight out of mind...
